today is the best woman in the world's birthday!

Grandmomma Bentley
Born September 25, 1916
i love her more than you could possibly understand. she, indeed, is the center of my whole heart and will be for the remainder of my life.
see i feel i have a special bond with this lady. we are for sure soul mates.
growing up we didn't spend as much time with her as i wished we would have. *but see, it doesn't stop me from thinking she is the greatest person, i would have probably just thought it 10 times more*
daddy was the only child of mrs. willie williams bentley and mr. billy (no middle name) bentley.
therefore..... we were the only 4 grandchildren.
this woman loved us more than we could ever imagine. the most time we spent with her was holidays but the most special times were when she would pick us up from school or just for the day.
usually only one of us at a time, we would hop up in that gray
she had and head to our appointment. once our appointment was over, she would then drive across town to visit her favorite restaurant (beacuse all her friends met there around 3 or 4 every day)
we would get whatever our hearts desired and once we visited and she showed us off to all her friends (which to her was the whole purpose of going), we would head to belk. belk had in stock the best shoes in the world and the oh so stylish....keds...
. i know she bought them in hopes of us not returning to her home with them turned that yellow brown color like they always did. after chewing a lot of her big red or her fav juicy fruit
, i would get my notebook under the end table and draw until my little heart was content. oh, what a good time for a youngster.
that is one of my fondest memories i have had with my grandmother as a child.
why i feel special to be her grandaughter.....
for the last two years of highschool i got to leave early for a work program.
so every thursday i would go and have lunch with my grandmother bentley.
i would arrive to her cute apartment on green street, walk in, and there was my meal already ready.... and i would eat that same meal every thursday.
**canned ham ~with a little salt

**mashed potatoes ~always in that green container with "bentley" written on masking tape

**and always a peice of "her favorite" sour cream pound cake~ and it had to be sour cream

to this day, my most special meal ever.
so you probably wonder why i feel so special for that??? and this is why-
because like i said above, we didn't spend as much time when we were younger, i feel special because for one day a week, I, ME, JEANNA, got to spend that day with her. i got to listen to her and learn all of her stories and i really became best friends with her.
so when grandmomma stopped driving, i was the one to take her places. not that she wouldn't ride with anyone else but she always wanted "jeanna" to pick her up or take her home.
it always makes my day to be able to take her places......to the bank, the the dry cleaners, to the jewelry store, to the alteration shop, to belk, to mcdonalds*just for old time sake* and to OUR favorite place to go and sit in the same boothe everytime....NORRIS'
so what i want to say to my grandmomma today on her 92nd birthday:
"thank you for always being such a genuine soul. you have taught me to love endlessly, live to my hearts content, and to laugh at all the silly things in life. to never say a bad word about any one because you never know who is listening. and you are the perfect example of being so beautiful on the inside as you are on the outsife. i will cherish these things and i am the luckiest girl in the world to have a grandmother like you. i can't wait to spend your 93rd birthday with you! i love you more than all the love in the world."
